Serving families across Chennai

Your parents in Chennai.
You, wherever life has taken you.
Us, right next door.

Work takes children a long way from the houses they grew up in. We stay close to your parents while you cannot. A Tamil-speaking carer at the door, someone beside them at the clinic, an honest account of how they really are.

What we do

The things you would do yourself, if the distance were shorter

The practical and the personal side of your parents' week. Where care needs clinical skill, we place a qualified nurse. Diagnosis stays with their doctors.

Home visits

A verified carer, on a fixed schedule. Time spent sitting with them, and a look at the house, the groceries and their spirits.

Live-in care, day and night

A trained caretaker stays at home with your parents, day and night. Feeding, mobility, hygiene, company. Our Kudumbam plan.

Doctor visits and lab work

We book it, take them, stay through it, and ask what you would have asked. Sample collections and reports tracked on their file.

Qualified nurses, when needed

Wound dressing, catheter care, injections, Ryles tube feeding. A qualified nurse, placed and billed through us. Our Nalam plan.

Written updates with photographs

An account of every visit, with photographs, in Tamil or English. Sent at an hour that suits where you live.

Video calls set up

Nobody should miss seeing your face because of a handset. We arrange the call, set the phone up and stay nearby.

Emergency support

A number that answers. We reach your parents or the hospital, medical file in hand, and keep you informed throughout.

Errands and paperwork

Bills, bank visits, pension paperwork, small repairs. The ordinary things that grow heavy with age and impossible from abroad.

Who looks after your parents

The team behind this has been caring for other people's parents for twenty-five years

The team that has run Carer for twenty-five years runs Anbudan Care. They are local ammas, Tamil women who have spent their working lives inside other people's homes. One of them takes your call herself, and she stays answerable to you for the care your parents receive.

Visits are made by a trained carer chosen for your household and briefed before she ever knocks on the door. It is the same familiar face each week rather than a stranger each time. Matching the right carer to a home is work this team has been doing for twenty-five years. Your family will know who is coming, and after every visit you receive photographs and a written account, so you always know exactly who was inside your parents' home and what took place.

"Your parents looked after you. When you cannot be here, we will make sure someone is, and we will answer to you for it. அன்புடன்."

Visit logs, schedule reminders, updates timed to your part of the world, a monthly report. Dull work. It is why nothing slips.

In their own words
How it works

From your first call to the first visit, inside a week

1

A call with one of our ammas

You speak with a woman who will be answerable for your parents' care, not a call handler. She will ask about your parents' routine, their health, their doctors, and what worries your family most. You will know exactly who we are before anything begins.

2

Home visit and care plan

We visit your parents and get to know them over the coffee they will insist on making. You keep three things from that visit, whether or not you go ahead: a written care plan, a safety check of the house, and their prescriptions, reports and doctors in one file. On the safety check, the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India found one in eight over-sixties had suffered a major fall. Among those already struggling to manage alone, better than one in five.

3

Care begins

Once your family has agreed the plan, visits, appointments and errands run to schedule from the first week, and you receive photographs after every touchpoint.

4

Monthly summary

A clean monthly report of visits, health notes, appointments and expenses. Every rupee accounted for and every visit logged.

Trust and safety

Written down, so nothing rests on goodwill alone

  • Verified visitors only

Everyone who enters your parents' home is identity and background verified. You will know who came and when, with a photograph.

  • A clear written agreement

A plain agreement setting out what we do, what we do not, and who does it. Clinical tasks only by a qualified nurse. Diagnosis stays with your parents' doctor.

  • A safety check before anything else

We walk the house for what puts older people in hospital. Unlit stairs. A wet bathroom floor with no grab bar. A bed too high to leave safely. You keep the list either way.

  • Transparent handling of money

Plan fees are fixed. Expenses at cost, with receipts. We never hold your parents' cards or cash.

FAQ

Questions families ask us

Do you offer a free trial?

We do not offer free trial care, and few established agencies do. What is free is the work that comes before care begins. The first call costs nothing, and neither does the first visit to your parents' home, which produces three things your family keeps whether or not you go ahead: a written care plan, a safety check of the house for the hazards that cause falls, and your parents' prescriptions, reports and doctors' details collected into one organised file. You decide once all of that is in your hands. Plans then run month to month with no lock-in, so you are never committed beyond the month you have paid for.

What does the Kudumbam plan include?

Kudumbam places a trained caretaker who lives at home with your parents rather than visiting them. She is present through the day and the night, and helps your parents with feeding, mobility, hygiene, company and the daily routine. Individual requests and particular habits are built into the plan. Where the work calls for clinical skill, such as wound dressing, catheter care, injections or Ryles tube feeding, that is the Nalam plan instead, which places a qualified nurse rather than a caretaker.

Is this a nursing or medical service?

We are not a hospital or a clinic, and we do not diagnose or decide treatment. That stays with your parents' doctors. Everyday care is given by trained caretakers, who do not administer medication. Where the work calls for clinical skill, such as wound dressing, catheter care, injections or Ryles tube feeding, the Nalam plan places a qualified nurse who carries it out under her own qualification. She is engaged and billed through us, rather than left for your family to find from abroad.

Which areas do you cover?

We are currently providing service all over Chennai. Our coordinators are assigned by zone, so response times stay fast whichever part of the city your parents live in.

How do payments work from abroad?

Monthly plans are payable by international card, PayPal, or NRE and NRO account transfer. Expense reimbursements are itemised with receipts in your monthly statement, and your family approves anything unusual before we spend.

What happens in an emergency?

Your family and your parents are given a dedicated emergency number. We reach the home or the hospital immediately, coordinate admission using the medical file we maintain, and keep you informed by call and WhatsApp until you or a relative can take over the decisions.

My parents are private people. Will they accept this?

It is the concern families raise most often, and it is why we begin slowly. The first visits are friendly social calls from a local Tamil-speaking amma rather than a service being performed. Most parents settle within two or three visits, and many come to treat visit day as the best day of their week.
